                                            A Ghost Appears to Kingo Hideaki by Yoshitoshi 1868
From the series Kaidai hyakusenso, "Yoshitoshi's One Hundred Warriors," that Yoshitoshi designed after personally witnessing the decisive battle of the Meiji Restoration on the outskirts of Tokyo. Depictions of contemporary events were prohibited, and to satisfy the censors, the series was given a sixteenth century context; here a ghost appears to the samurai Kingo Chunagon Hideaki.
