                                        Hisahide Prepares to Kill Himself by Yoshitoshi 1883


Matsunaga Hisahide was the chief minister of shogun Yoshiteru, against whom he rebelled and whom he forced to commit suicide in 1565. In 1577, at the age of seventy, the cruel old campaigner was in turn defeated and forced to kill himself. Here, in fury, he hurls his last sake cup against a pillar. From the series Yoshitoshi mushaburui, "Yoshitoshi's Finest Warriors."
