Cherry Blossoms at the Yoshiwara by Yoshitoshi

Cherry Blossoms at the Yoshiwara by Yoshitoshi
The Yoshiwara pleasure quarters were famous for their cherry blossoms. Here an off-duty courtesan plays with her son near the main gate of the quarters. The design is in the painterly Shijo style; the engravers have replicated every brush stroke. A woodlbock illustration from a book on flower arranging by a British architect who commissioned six designs from Yoshitoshi.
