Jean-Paul Sartre at Bertrand Russell Tribunal, 1967

Jean-Paul Sartre at Bertrand Russell Tribunal Stockholm, Sweden May 8, 1967
Jean-Paul Sartre, in his capacity as Chairman, opens the Bertrand Russell Tribunal. Prime Minister Tage Erlander said a White House aide told him President Johnson "considered it highly regrettable" Bertrand Russell's mock Vietnam trail was being held here. The trial, composed of noted leftwingers, has featured virtually unchallenged criticism of U.S. action in Vietnam. In neutral Sweden, where officials said they felt powerless to halt the mock tribunal, the show was continuing with more "witnesses" scheduled to testify against the United States.
