Temple relief carvings of Hindu deities. Laksmi dances in a lotus: she is the symbol of maternal benevolence, purity and spiritual strength. Brahma (panel behind) is the first member of the Hindu triad. He is also called Prajapati, Lord and Father of All Creatures. Brahma has four faces, one facing each direction (only three are visible) and is identified as holding a rosary (or sceptre) , an alms bowl, a bow, and the Rig Veda, the ancient Hindu scriptures.Sculptures that decorate temples reached their pinnacle in elaboration during the Hoysala period.
