Courtesan Sees Herself in a Mirror by Yoshitoshi

Courtesan Jigokudayu Sees Herself in a Mirror by Yoshitoshi 1882
The fifteenth century courtesan Jigokudayu, whose name means "Lady from Hell," was enlightened when she looked into a mirror one day and saw a skeleton. She became the confidante of the unorthodox priest Ikkyu, whose eccentricities inlcuded walking around the streets of the capital with a skull on the end of a pole. In this caricature print, two demons in bowler hats laugh at her.
