Geisha With Pipe by Yoshitoshi 1880
From a series "Twenty-Four Hours of the Day at Shimbashi and Yanagibashi" (two famous entertainment areas in Tokyo), this describes the third hour (early in the morning). A geisha reclines under a quilt for a late-night smoke - women smoked as well as men, especially in the entertainment world. Note the lacquered lamp and lacquered pillow to her left.
