From a series called Twenty-Four Hours of the Day at Shimbashi and Yanagibashi, this print depicts the fourth hour. A geisha eats a snack with chopsticks after an evening's entertaining. The figure in uniform in the upper cartouche is a municipal policeman, one of a force very recently established in Tokyo, after the Meiji Restoration of 1868.
