The fallen heads of colossal statues of the Greek gods lie strewn amid the ruins on the Western Terrace

at the mountaintop site of Nemrut Dagi, built around 64-32 B.C.

Huge stone heads toppled from statues of kings and gods lie at the site of a tumulus built for Antiochos I (69-34 B.C.), the first king of Commagene, on the snow-capped summit of Nemrut Dagi (Mount Nimrod), in eastern Turkey. The statues include those of Zeus (fg) and one of Antiochos himself (bg).

The head of an eagle and that of a bearded man, toppled from gigantic stone statues, lie on the snow capped summit of Nemrut Dagi (Mount Nimrod), site of a tumulus built for Antiochos I (69-34 B.C.),

the first Commagene king. Several such statues of kings and gods once stood at the site which lies

between Malatya and Urfa, in eastern Turkey.
