Man With Seven Women by Kitao Shigemasa 1780

Man With Seven Women by Kitao Shigemasa 1780

A man in an elegant house of prostitution attempting to satisfy seven women at the same time. Fantasies of this sort are rare in Japanese shunga prints, unlike in Indian art, where the image of one man with many women epitomizes the sexual ideal of the hero. Shunga means "spring picture," spring being a euphemism for sex. Such designs were issued in great numbers and form an important genre in ukiyo-e.
