A jeweled cross, ca. early 16th century, used by the Knights of Saint John of Jersusalem, to swear allegiance to their Order. The cross was one of a number of treasures that the knights were permitted to take with them upon their departure from the island of Rhodes, in 1523, after their defeat by Suleiman I.
