Bronze ritual bells, China

 

Bronze ritual bells, oval in cross-section, were hung and played in series, smaller bells producing higher sounds. The bronze bosses on the outside were added to modifiy the tones. This bell was cast during the Spring and Autumn Annals period of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty (771-480 B.C.).
