Two bronze figures, known as the Mori, serve to strike the bell which crowns the Torre dell' Orologio in St. Mark's Square, Venice. The winged lion of Venice stands on a ledge beneath the bell.

 

 

 

A sculpted figure on St. Mark's Cathedral poises before one of its bells, holding a hammer with which to strike it. The basilicas's domes rise behind him. Venice, Italy.
